Marines, Good Morning.
Well, since we gave you a taste of what we are trying to do with the effort to have a Commemorative Remington 870 shotgun made, here is an update and how it came about.
At our last reunion, in Sept. of this year we agreed to take the design from our challenge coin and try to incorporate it into a patch. That was done and those patches should be available soon.
Some of us were standing around talking about the shotgun issue and we moved on, but the idea stuck in the back of the head of some of us.
Through much pondering and long distance calling it was decided to contact Remington. (Note: We are aware that some of our members carried a different model of shotgun.)
That was done and we were put in contact with their custom shop. After much discussion both e-mail and via phone, it was decide that it could be done. We looked at the base design and issues that would make it special. We looked at having the barrel engraved with USNDCMD and special serial numbers. These kinds of ideas could be done but they would be cost prohibitive. So, we looked at having something done with the stock.
What we came up with is a Remington, Model 870:
- Satin finished stock
- bead sight
- plastic butt plate
- front and stock sling swivels
- USNDCMD patch design laser cut into the out board (right) side of the stock.
- Below that it will state USNDC MD 1 of___ the number we order.
** We are looking into having your name cut into the stock below the number.
When will this be available?
Once the proto type is assembled and ready for review by the acquisition team, they will visit Remington's plant in New York State. This should take place in Jan. 2010.
How do I get one?
- Well, first of all you have had to serve at the Castle and can prove it. (DD214)
- Be a member or the USNDC Marine Det. Association. (see web page to join).
- You must meet all Federal, State and Local Laws for owning a gun. Some of the things that would restrict you are, Convicted of a felony, domestic Violence, etc.
Where do I order and how much will it cost?
These details are a still in the works but it should be something like this.
- You will send a certified check or money order along with a form requiring some of the following information, Name, address, driver's license number, the name and address of the local licensed gun dealer you want it shipped too, etc.
- You cannot receive the gun at your home or business; it must go through a licensed dealer. (Federal Law)
- The shotgun should be about $550 dollars.
- The dealer receiving and sending them out to your local dealer should add about another $50 to $75 dollars in cost.
- So we think the cost should be around $600 to $625 dollars.
- You will be responsible for any taxes on your end.
When? Feb. 2010
This is a once in a life time thing. For those of you that collect firearms you understand the true value of this piece.
More to come!!!
